Lecture and Talk: Immigration and Integration Policies:
Convergence or Divergence?
with Prof. Phil Martin, University of California in Davis, and Dr. Hans-Dietrich von Löffelholz, BaMF (Commentator)
The situation of immigrants in the US and Germany is not necessarily comparable in all aspects.
In the US, (male) immigrants have higher labor force participation and about the same unemployment rates as US-born workers, but some wind up as working poor, with relatively low wages and few work-related benefits.
In Europe, immigrants often have lower labor force participation and much higher unemployment rates than native workers, but immigrants in regular jobs have above poverty-level incomes and benefits. Will immigration and integration policies converge, and with similar results?
